Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, Special Envoy of Pope Francis, visited Bucha, Kyiv Region

On June 5, His Eminence Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, President of the Italian Episcopal Conference and Special Envoy of Pope Francis, visited Kyiv Region as part of his visit to Ukraine. Ruslan Kravchenko, Head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, and representatives of local authorities, accompanied him.

Ruslan Kravchenko noted that this was the first visit of the Pope’s Envoy for Peace to Ukraine, during which he saw with his own eyes the high price Ukrainians pay for freedom and peace in the world.

In particular, the delegation visited the Church of St. Andrew the Apostle in Bucha. This is the place where 119 civilians were buried during the occupation.

“Such stories are painful to the entire civilized world. The Pope’s Envoy spoke about the massacres of civilians by the Nazis near the Italian city of Bologna. Ukrainians, like no one else, want such terrible crimes against humanity to never happen again,” the Head of the Regional Administration emphasized.
